LITTLE BRIAN SHORTLISTED FOR TWO EDUCATION AWARDS

Well, we have certainly started 2017 in style as we recently received the news that we have been shortlisted for TWO education awards.

Our much-loved and already award-winning product, Paint Sticks, has made the shortlist in two categories at the highly-coveted Education Resources Awards (ERA) 2017, which will be held on Friday, March 17th, at The National Conference Centre, Birmingham.

We’re so excited as we look to add to our collection by scooping the Special Education Resource or Equipment award and the Early Years Resource or Equipment award.
Our very own sales director, Lara Alcock, couldn’t contain her delight at the recent news!

She said: “What a way to kick off 2017 and be shortlisted in not one but two categories.

“Being announced as finalists in Educational categories just shows how flexible Paint Sticks are, they are suited to everybody! Paint Sticks are perfectly sized for the hands of children and they not only help to develop the creativity of children, but also help to improve children’s motor-skills and co-ordination, vital during the early years of teaching.
“We really are over the moon with this nomination, we are delighted with the impact the brand made in its first year and we’ve certainly started 2017 on a high!”

The Education Resources Awards are now into their 18th year and they look to highlight and reward the quality and diversity of educational products, resources, services and people as well as the best educational establishments and the most dedicated members of the teaching profession.

Lara added: “We’re determined to keep going from strength-to-strength, Paint Sticks have been extremely well received and I think the award nominations and wins are showing that.
“We won’t take a step back, we’re always looking to improve as we to strive for Paint Sticks to be the go to art resource”

LITTLE BRIAN SCOOPS THIRD AWARD

Well, we’re back in the office after a wonderful Christmas break and the back end of 2016 saw us receive some more great news, we won our THIRD award!

Yes, that’s right, our Classic Paint Sticks are three time award winners! But we must say, this one was a little bit special…

We fought off tough competition from worldwide brand Crayola to be named the winners of the Painting and Colouring Materials category for four to seven year olds at the Creative Play Awards!

It was a lengthy process and following our nomination, all products which entered the category underwent weeks of intensive testing by independent testers, who were mainly childcare professionals.

Testers looked for a number of things to meet the criteria including value for money, age appropriate and enjoyment factor. Then following the tests, we received the results and were announced as the winners and we were absolutely delighted!

It follows an already tremendous 2016 in which we were announced as the overall winner in the Creative Play category for the Practical Pre-School Awards and a gold award winner in the Creative Play category for the Primary Teacher Update Awards.

Our very own sales director Lara has high hopes for 2017 and admits 2016 is one the company will never forget.

She said: “2017 is going to be hard to beat after such an impressive first year but we’re determined to keep going from strength-to-strength. We have a product that is certainly on the up and we want to take it to the next level.

“The year 2016 has been one to remember. The latest award win was our biggest achievement to date and we’re extremely proud of the success, not only to be named ahead of Crayola but to be able to prove that our products really are perfect for children.”

So 2017, we’re ready for you!

We were over the moon just to be nominated but to come away with TWO awards is a testament to the hard work that has been done behind the scenes at the Little Brian HQ!

Our very own sales director Lara is delighted with the wins and she had this to say: “Paint Sticks are only six months old but the reaction they’ve received has been fantastic.

“We’re a new brand and it’s flattering to win the awards, we’re delighted and we’re sure it will be the first of many.”

For the awards, we made the trip to Birmingham and it was certainly an anxious car journey!

As we arrived, we saw lots of different businesses and as the awards started to be announced, all of the team certainly got a bit nervous.

But once we heard our name, it’s safe to say we went a bit crazy!

We were over the moon that Paint Sticks have proved lovable with everybody that has tried them.

They’re a great toy and the practicality makes them easy to use, as we always say when you hear paint, you may think mess, but Little Brian says NO to mess!

Little Brian Authors and Illustrators

We’ve had our first experience of working with famous faces! And what a fab one it was.

Our Paint Sticks went on a little tour to Brighton Open Air Theatre along with several famous authors and illustrators as part of the Lifeboat Fundraiser event.

Emily Gravett, illustrator of Bare and the Hare books, Tim Hopgood, author and illustrator of Walter’s Wonderful Web, Guy Parker-Rees, illustrator of Giraffes Can’t Dance, Anthony Browne, the Children’s Laureate from 2009-2011 and Axel Scheffler, illustrator of the famous books The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom all pulled out their Paint Sticks and drew/painted in front of large audiences.
The creations were simply amazing and were later auctioned off to raise over £14,000 for The School Bus Project, which aims to help people through the current refugee crisis by converting a double decker bus into a classroom.

The charity also takes teachers into the refugee camps in Europe to provide support and education to the children there.

It’s fair to say we were extremely proud, our Paint Sticks were in the hands of some of the best illustrators in the country but also helping raise funds for a vital cause.

At Little Brian, our experts may be the kids but if we’re honest, adults love us to.

The fun they can have with the Paint Sticks has been proven and Emily and her friends definitely agree!

UNPLUG THE GADGETS FOR NATIONAL UNPLUGGING DAY

It may not seem a worrying trend to many busy Mums and Dads looking for some peace and quiet to get jobs done but a study by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) of government data has warned that just 1 in 10 of the i-pad generation of toddlers is actually active enough to be deemed ‘healthy’.
The stark statistic supports mounting evidence of the physical, emotional and mental health risks that are being associated with too much ‘gadget time’ so parents across the UK are being tasked to take action and support National Unplugging day on Sunday, 26th June.
Little Brian Paint Sticks is supporting the #GoGadgetFree day in a bid to wean children away from the i-pad or the X-Box and go back to grass roots fun!
Lara Alcock from Little Brian Paint Sticks said: “Children learn from play, especially primary school children but they are easily distracted by the latest game or the latest online craze and it is very easy for parents to lose track of just how much screen time their child is having.
“Without knowing it, parents are often culprits too so it is important they set a good example. A quick glance as the phone beeps, a check of the latest cricket scores over dinner or getting embroiled in a lengthy Facebook conversation are clear indicators of acceptance that in a child’s mind, it’s OK to keep picking up the I-pad.”
“So, with National Unplugging Day just around the corner, we are urging children and parents too to power down, put them away and enjoy some quality family time based on traditional, old-fashion play and fun. Our Paint Sticks are just one example of things to do as unlike gadgets, they encourage creativity, motor skills and dexterity; but there are plenty of other things that families can do together away from the gizmo’s. Whatever you choose to do, whether it’s painting, puzzles, picnics or garden games why not give a digital detox day a try?”
Little Brian Paint Sticks are extremely versatile and a range of different techniques can be used which include blending, stamping and the art of scraperboard, perfect for all ages and abilities. Paint Sticks are available in strong, classic colours in either a pack of six or 12 for an RRP of £4.99 and £7.25 respectively from Amazon and a range of new products are also in the pipeline.
